Why K-Ed?
Individualized Academic Support
Every student has different academic strengths, challenges, ambitions, and learning needs. K-Ed's services are designed to provide individualized attention rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
International Education Guidance
For families considering education abroad, the process involves much more than choosing a school. K-Ed helps students and parents understand the academic and application requirements involved in pursuing international education opportunities and helps them prepare for it.
Skills That Extend Beyond the Classroom
Our programs emphasize skills that students can continue using throughout their education: mathematical reasoning, reading comprehension, effective writing, critical thinking, communication, and independent learning.
Our Approach
We begin by understanding the student's current academic position, goals, strengths, and areas requiring additional support.
We develop a tutoring or application-support plan appropriate to the student's needs and timeline.
Students receive consistent, individualized instruction and feedback.
Students are supported as they work toward examinations, applications, essays, and future academic milestones.
Progress is reviewed and the program can be adjusted as the student's needs evolve.
Sharon Mutoni
Founder & Academic Director
Sharon Mutoni brings a uniquely international perspective to education, having studied across three distinct education systems: Rwandan, British, and American.
Her educational journey began in Rwanda, where she attended Wellspring Academy, Nu Vision High School, and Gashora Girls Academy of Science and Technology, completing her secondary education with a focus on Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
Sharon went on to attend Williams College, a leading liberal arts college in the United States, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics. During her time at Williams, she developed both her mathematical and literary interests, earning multiple prizes in writing competitions while also serving as a Teaching Assistant in the Mathematics Department.
Following university, Sharon continued her work in education at a private boarding school in Connecticut, where she taught Mathematics and English. Her role also involved serving as a liaison for international student families, giving her firsthand experience supporting students and parents as they navigated an unfamiliar educational environment.
These experiences — as a student across different education systems, a university teaching assistant, a classroom teacher, and a liaison for international families — shaped Sharon's understanding of the academic and personal challenges students can encounter as they move between educational environments.
In 2026, Sharon founded K-Ed with the goal of bringing this experience to families in Kigali. Through K-Ed, she seeks to provide students with thoughtful, individualized academic support while helping families navigate educational opportunities in Rwanda and abroad.
Her approach
- Academic rigor. Building strong foundations and encouraging students to think beyond memorization.
- Individual attention. Understanding the student first, then tailoring instruction to their needs.
- Global perspective. Helping students develop the academic and social skills and confidence needed to thrive across different educational environments.
"Every student deserves the opportunity to understand what they are capable of — and the support to get there."
